A kerf is cut in advance in the thickness of each of the two planks forming the mitre, then the joint nail is inserted using a hammer, thus assembling the two planks.  The joint nail is hidden within the thickness of the wood.  No exterior or interior trace of the assembly is visible.

Using joint nails gives rise to considerable economies in manufacturing, time, labour and workshop surface area.  The assembled planks are very solidly joined and immediately ready for any finishing processes.
